I have a question.

Do any of you recognize this machine?

I bought it from a man in Poland. It is suposed to be german but unfortunately it does not have a name plate anywhere. Its a superb machine with feed mechanism working as a gearbox with hardened sloped teeth gears in oil all the time. The cutterhead is old fassioned streight knife with the big washer nuts holding the blade by friction. The cutterhead is mounted on 4 ball bearings (not babbet bearings) (2 per side). It has an old siemens 5.5 KW motor. It was surely mass produced judging by the castings. It reminds me of Aldinger or old Bauerle machines. Can you help me identify it? Or at least maby it's age at least?

It originaly had a motor belt cover but it was in a bad state not really fixable so i just trashed it and will make a new one soon. Still it is about 70 years old so who knows how it run out of the factory. That gearbox amazes me. I wish i had a video to show how it runs without cover

Hi,
I think the machine is older. Between 90 and 110 years. In the fifties nobody built this type of knife fixing. I would not use a machine with this type of knife fixing.

Greetings John
Did they use ball bearings back then? Hehe i heard it threw knives for some but did;t happen to me. It gets quite a bit of use planing hardwood mostly ash almost daily :emoji_slight_smile:
